The Erie County Sheriff's Irish Pipe and Drum Band meets at the Buffalo Irish Center on Abbot Road in South Buffalo every Monday at 7:00 PM.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Irish Pipes and Drums is a reserve unit to the Erie County Sheriff’s Department. It was founded in 1994 by former Sheriff Tom Higgins, George McGovern, and Tim Leary.

Within the Western New York area, the group has maintained active participation in the following annual events and parades:

           St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Memorial Day Parades and associated Memorial Day Services
           Pulaski Day Parade
           Erie County Fair
           Labor Day Parade
           Special Events Parade
           Veteran Memorial Services and Tributes
Events associated with the Irish Culture and Heritage
Various events in support of the Buffalo Irish Center (our home base)
           Retirement/Nursing Homes
           Assorted school and community festivals

Musical presentations include Irish and Scottish tunes with a blend of traditional and contemporary music.

Piper and Drummers are available for individual performances for special occasions such as weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, St. Patrick’s Day parties, ethnic celebrations/festivals for schools, educational organizations, and community service organizations.

The group consist of a color guard, a piping section, and a drumming section. ALL MEMBERS ARE VOLUNTEERS. We come together to keep the traditions alive of playing “outlawed tunes on outlawed pipes.  We also enjoy the chance to pass an appreciation of the music and culture to future generations. We have several younger members that are children of current band members.

Membership inquiries are always welcome. New members are welcome at any time!

We are always looking for experienced pipers and drummers, as well as new students from age 10 and up who are interested in learning to play the pipes or drums. Pipe lessons are typically free of charge. Drum lessons are by arrangement with the Drum Major and a nominal fee may apply.

Classes and practice are held every Monday night at the Buffalo Irish Center. Abbott Road, South Buffalo. There is no cost for membership and you do not need to be a member of law enforcement or even Irish or Scottish descent to join. You must just be willing to practice and have a great time.
